First pile for new parking garage De Kopermolen struck!

A special moment for the Merenwijk! In the presence of alderman Julius Terpstra and many local residents, the first pile was driven Friday afternoon for the new parking garage of shopping center De Kopermolen. This is the next important step in the renewal of the new heart of the Merenwijk.

In the coming months, work is underway here on the construction of a modern parking garage with about one hundred underground parking spaces. The garage will form the solid base for Lidl's new storefront.
Alderman Terpstra, together with local residents, shopkeepers and the children of the Zijlwijk school from the Merenwijk district, left a personal message on the first pile. A symbolic gesture that nicely underlines the connection with the neighborhood.

Since 2017, we have been working on a large-scale redevelopment of De Kopermolen. At the beginning of this year, the Tiny Houses and the retail space that now houses the circular department store were completed. In addition to the realization of the parking garage, the entire shopping center is being renovated and made more sustainable, and new affordable housing will eventually be added: an innovative example of urban densification with an eye for quality of life.

The roof of the parking garage is scheduled to be closed in October 2026. After that, the public space above it will be landscaped, with great attention to greenery and residential quality. The official opening of the parking garage is scheduled for June 2027.
