Tiny Houses De Kopermolen

Leiden, Netherlands
8 tiny houses on shopping mall De Kopermolen
Innovative residential solution green oasis in the city
Social renting For sustainable and close-knit community

Description

Leiden has added a special form of housing with the realization of eight tiny houses on the roof of shopping center de Kopermolen. This unique project contributes to a more sustainable and cohesive community in the Merenwijk. Built with sustainability in mind, the tiny houses are even more sustainable than the current BENG standard. They are made of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), an environmentally friendly and innovative building material. The tiny houses are intended for one- to two-person households and equipped with all the basic amenities: a living and sleeping area, kitchen, bathroom and outdoor space. The houses are completely electric and gas-free, and are heated with an air-source heat pump. There are solar panels on the roof. The tiny houses are socially rented to people willing to actively contribute to the community, for example by maintaining a vegetable garden or supporting activities in the shopping center.

Location

The tiny houses are placed on the roof of de Kopermolen, in the middle of the lively Merenwijk. An innovative residential solution that brings together urban and green elements. Residents can enjoy a quiet living environment, while still being directly connected to the amenities of the shopping center and neighborhood. Stores, schools and sports facilities are a short distance away. The historic center of Leiden is less than a 15-minute bike ride away.
