Cristofori ready for the future

The monumental Cristofori building on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam has received a sustainable upgrade. Together with IJBOUW® and Polman bouwconsulting, we worked on the renovation of this iconic building, an inspiring place for (creative) entrepreneurs.

After previous preservation and renovation work, such as installing heat pumps, renovating the roof and renewing the foundation, the facade renovation has now been completed. The facades have been insulated and fitted with HR++ and vacuum glass, further improving the energy label to A++. The building retains its characteristic appearance while meeting the most modern sustainability requirements.

Renovating on Amsterdam's monumental quays presents challenges. The narrow and fragile quays made it impossible to use a tower crane, requiring alternative logistical solutions. Thanks to thoughtful modifications, such as temporary scaffolding and special transport, the work could be carried out efficiently and with minimal inconvenience to the surroundings.

From the street side, Cristofori looks like a normal Amsterdam canal house, but appearances are deceptive. The building is much deeper at the back than you might expect and extends no less than 40 meters. With an eye for both sustainability and historical value, this special building is now ready for the future.
